Copyright

The purpose of this guide is to provide you with an idea of copyright law and how it works on campus. It gives general information, campus policy, the rolls of students and faculty and a description of creative commons licenses. This guide does not give a comprehensive insight to copyright law, but a snap shot of good practices for students and faculty.

What is Copyright?

Copyright is a form of protection provided by the laws of the United States (title 17, U.S. Code) to the authors of "original works of authorship," including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other intellectual works.  This protection is available to both published and unpublished works.  For more information see the United States Copyright Office website.
