A guide to building bibliographies and managing citations with Zotero.

Installing either Zotero for Firefox or Zotero StandAlone

Two choices for downloading Zotero:

1. Installing to work within the Firefox Browser as a plugin (lives in the browser's lower section).

OR

2. Installing Zotero Standalone for Browsers Safari or Chrome or Firefox

 

 

Zotero for Firefox (plugin)

Option 1: Zotero for Firefox (plug-in)         

1. Click the “Download Now” button

2. Select “Zotero for Firefox” and “Allow” from top right

3. Click “Install” but don’t restart yet

4. Click “Plug-in for Word/Open Office” and make sure you have MS office/Open Office closed

5. Restart Firefox

 You should see in the bottom right hand corner of your Firefox window the word “Zotero”. Click on it to open or hide your Zotero library 

 If using Zotero for Firefox, you will need to install the Word Processor Plug-in. 

Zotero Standalone

Option 2: Zotero Standalone (Chrome or Safari)

1. Click the “Download Now” button

2. Choose your operating system/browser under “Zotero Standalone”

3. Click the “Zotero connector” for your browser and follow the prompt

4. Word/Open Office Plug-ins are included in Standalone

 You should see a Zotero icon on your computer’s desktop. Open it to view your Zotero library. If using Zotero Standalone, install the word processor plug-ins from the Cite pane of the Zotero preferences.
