John Carroll University

The University Archives was not established until 1980, when the records that had been accumulating were sorted, organized into record groups reflecting the University's administrative structure, and filed in acid-free boxes for storage. There are currently more than 40 record groups reflecting administrative and historical information relevant to the development and continuation of the University, with regular transfers from most university offices.

In addition to the documentary record, the Archives houses some other collections of interest, all of which were acquired under special circumstances:

  • The Papers of the American Chemical Society
  • The Papal Coins and Medals Collection
  • An autograph collection of world leaders donated by a JCU alumnus.

Some records of interest

  • Materials regarding the founding Jesuits of John Carroll University
  • Materials relating to the construction of the current campus in University Heights, Ohio
  • The papers of Fr. Frederick Odenbach, S.J., who established John Carroll's Seismology Observatory.
