Call Number Help

  • Children's Books (local call # 099) :  C [author last name] [first word title]   E.g. C Wise Goodnight
  • Comics (local call # 099) : Comics [First word of title] -- Add second word of title if first word is not unique in collection
  • Popular: (local call # 099) :  POP [author last name] [first word title]   E.g. POP Brooks Horse
  • Videorecordings (LC call # 090 - adapted) : For non-fiction films, use the assigned LC call number.  For fiction / popular / mass release type films, use PN1997 (only; don't use PN1997.2, etc.) then cutter for the title, and include the year.  For foreign films, cutter by original title.  
  • Xavier collection (local call # 099) : Xavier [first 4 letters author's last name]    E.g. Xavier Bene
  • Theses (local call # 099) : [department code] [year] [first 3 letters of author's name]    E.g.  BL 2013 Mur
  • Student Call # Tutorial : learn how Library of Congress call numbers are filed, and take some quizzes!
