Building Guide

We're so excited about the major renovation the library is undergoing! However, this will impact the locations and availability of some services and collections in the library:

• The first floor/lower level of the library is currently under renovation and closed until the Spring semester, 2025. 

• The Den (coffee and snacks) is closed during this time and will reopen Spring 2025.

• The University Archives is closed, please contact the Archives Assistant (archives@jcu.edu) with requests and we may be able to help.

• The Learning Commons is available on the 2nd floor near the computer commons.

• The Grad Lounge has been relocated to the 3rd floor (room 323).

• The Interfaith Prayer Room is currently closed, however we're working to bring it back when the first floor reopens, Spring 2025.

• Library administrative services, including student hiring in the library is now on the 2nd floor, room G250.

Originally dedicated in 1961, Grasselli Library doubled its capacity (to 100,000 square feet) in 1995 with the opening of the Breen Learning Center wing. The library houses more than 500,000 books, bound periodicals, and audiovisual items. It offers private and group study spaces, an electronic classroom, The Den coffee bar and lounge, and an open-air reading garden. A 44-seat Computer Commons is located adjacent to the reference area. In January 2010 the new Center for Digital Media (CDM) opened on the main floor of Grasselli Library. The CDM combines the resources and services of the Faculty Technology Innovation Center (FTIC) with those of Grasselli Library's Student Multimedia Center (SMC). The goal of the center is to provide faculty and students with the hardware, software, and training they need to create sophisticated presentations, videos, graphics, and other forms of multimedia that can serve to enhance teaching, learning, research, and creativity.
