Academic Year 2022-2023 Summary

Expert Help and Support

Grasselli Library couldn't exist without people! Our mission is to support the teaching and learning needs of everyone on campus. And our faculty, staff, and student employees are what allow us to accomplish this work. Below are some of the many ways the people of the library serve the JCU community.

Students Employees Are Essential

Grasselli Library is one of the largest employers of students on campus. In 2022-23, the library had 104 students working in all areas of the library. Students answer questions, shelve books, help keep spaces clean, manage social media, and perform database maintenance, among many other activities. We also employ a graduate student assistant, who manages the Learning Commons.

Learning Commons

The Learning Commons is a collaborative learning center that offers John Carroll University students free study tables, peer tutoring, resume help, wellness and study skill workshops and a variety of other fun and interactive programs. Study tables and tutoring are offered in a variety of subjects including Business Statistics, Chemistry, and Latin. During 2022-23, there were over 1500 student visits to the Learning Commons!

Events in the Library

Grasselli Library supports the emotional wellness of the JCU community by hosting a number of wellness and other events in its spaces throughout the year. In 2022-223, these events provided over 200 students with opportunities for a break from academics, information for overall emotional health, and social connection. One of these 13 events was an activity for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, pictured here.

Faculty Librarians

Faculty librarians provide individual research consultations for any interested student, as well as for specific class assignments. They also provide in-class group sessions during regular class periods upon request by the instructor. The goals of these sessions can range from help with topic development, targeting the best resources and search approaches for research, education about ethical use of information, and development of critical thinking skills in the evaluation of information sources.
