Although students may not have a lot of extra time, the Library's Popular Reading, Comic, and DVD collections can provide a mental health break and reduce psychological distress (see this research article). In FY24, awareness of the Popular Reading Collection grew, as evidenced by nearly 300% growth in yearly checkouts since its creation in 2023. See some of the popular books the JCU community enjoyed below!
Students were able to access course materials at no additional cost to support learning outcomes and save money. Textbooks and materials put on reserve made up nearly half of all the physical items checked out from the library this year. The most popular textbook of the year was "Readings in Urban Economics," which was checked out 244 times!
The JCU community can borrow both physical and electronically delivered items from dozens of other institutions across the state through the OhioLINK consortium. The library also lends out materials to other schools as part of this benefit. The graphs below show where physical items were sent to or came from other institutions as part of this state-wide benefit.
