Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Interlibrary loan (ILL) is the process by which libraries borrow from each other, and is used to borrow not only books but also copies of articles and book chapters. Interlibrary loan is generally reserved for items or articles which are not in the Grasselli Library's physical or electronic collections.

When you submit an interlibrary loan request, follow the steps below to make sure your request can be filled quickly.

1. Search for the book or journal article locally using search boxes on our home page. A librarian can provide assistance if needed.

2. Verify that the citation information is correct. Incorrect or missing information can delay or even stall a request. Google Scholar can be useful for verifying citations.

3. Go to Grasselli ILL and log in using your JCU campus credentials.

4. Click Create Request.

5. Select the type of new request you would like to make (article/chapter, book, or other).

6. Fill out the request form with as much information as you can. Check with a librarian for assistance before submitting if you have any concerns.

7. Submit your request. You will be notified by email when the item is ready.

Requests for more common materials may take only a few days to be filled. There can be additional delays for more obscure requests, so please be patient. Some requests may not be able to be filled, either because too few libraries hold the item in question or because of borrowing or copying fees. If you have questions or need additional information, email ill@jcu.edu.
